Steps to enhance sales strategy with digital analytics

I love digital analytics. Something about it makes me really happy but I can’t yet point my finger at the exact “joy factor”. I used to hate dealing with numbers but lately, digital analytics has made me build a new interest in numbers and solving data.

To get your hands on digital analytics and learn how to use it to enhance your sales and marketing strategy, you must first understand its significance and role in your business. So, what role does analytics play?
1. It provides useful data on relevant aspects of your business including customer, sales, performance, etc.
2. It gives you insight to otherwise unknown issues
3. It helps enhance service delivery

There are many advantages of utilising data to your business but that is not the focus of this post. This article addresses how to use analytics to inform relevant decisions for your business after having understood it’s role.

Step 1:
The first step in digital analytics is the installation of a data tracking software or app on your digital material such as your website, mobile app, or social media pages. There are also inbuilt data tracking programs on such channels so, even if you don’t know how to install one, you need to identify the inbuilt ones and learn how to begin to use them. You can get some online coaching here

Step 2: Familiarise
Have a general overview of these data mining or tracking programmes. Read FAQs or guides that come with it. Tip: Don’t be intimidated by all the graphs, charts, numbers and everything else. Just play around it for a while. Relax and think of it as a fun thing or game. Get familiar with the features and begin to observe what exactly is going on there.

Step 3: Know what you want to find out
What do you want to explore with data? Have an objective. Do you want to know about your customer or website visitors? Do you want to learn about the pages with the most traffic? Or you just want to know if your adverts are paying off? Having an objective or goal sets you up to a great start. It prevents you from just browsing through the data and going straight to finding what you want, thereby avoiding stress of going through all the humongous data available.

Step3: Narrow your search
When you narrow your search, you can now begin to draw up data you wish to analyse, understand and interpret. However, you will need some basic tutoring if you find this stage confusing. Get help if you get stuck or send us an email and we can give you some tutorials. But the basic things you should know are:
Know where to find what
Understand what each figure represents
Study them gently and don’t rush.

Step 4: Start with small data to avoid confusion
I always advice business owners who want to work out their data analytics themselves to start practicing with social media insights. Facebook and Twitter for instance are easy to understand and they even provide you with summaries. Go through them, and understand them.

But the trick is, to know what each data represents and how they can be used to inform or enhance your sales or marketing strategy. Ciao! 😉
